Partnership Advisor, Dr. Gregg Duncan reported lab student, Devorah Cahn published a research article in the journal Cellular & Molecular Bioengineering (CMBE) earlier this year: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12195-022-00727-x.  And, Dr. Duncan was recognized with the CMBE Young Innovator Award for this work: https://bioe.umd.edu/news/story/umd-bioengineering-1-in-cmbe-young-innovator-awards

Partnership Advisor, Dr. Edward Giniger reported he and Dr. Garegin Papoian published two collaborative stories fall 2022 that were spearheaded by a joint student, Aravind Chandrasekaran:

  • Chandrasekaran, et al. (2022a) Computational simulations reveal that Abl activity controls cohesiveness of actin networks in growth cones MBoC 33(11)
  • Chandrasekaran, et al. (2022b) Nucleation causes an actin network to fragment into multiple high-density domains Biophys J. 121, 3200-12

James Shamul reported from the past year of 2022, work featured in the UMD's Engineering at Maryland Fall 2022 issue.  Also noted James published one co-first author review paper and gave a talk at the Society for Biomaterials Annual meeting in April 2022.

Partnership, Advisor, Dr. Kimberly Stroka reported some outcomes from previous grant with Voula Mili:

R.A. Moriarty, S. Mili#, K.M. Stroka#. RNA localization in confined cells depends on cellular mechanical activity and contributes to confined migration. iScience 25: 103845 (2022).  Rebecca defended her PhD in summer 2021 and then took a position (where she still is currently) as a Research Scientist at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston.

Hyeyeon Gong reported presentation of a poster at the annual meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) last year (October 2022).
