We are delighted to invite you to our annual National Cancer Institute-University of Maryland(NCI-UMD) Partnership for Integrative Cancer Research Symposium. Our Symposium, which aims to foster interactions between NCI and UMD in biophysics, systems biology, bioengineering, and bioinformatics, will be held in Bethesda, Maryland at the National Institutes of Health's John Edward Porter Neuroscience Research Center, room 640 on February 17, 2017 from 9am-5pm.
Dr. Robert Singer, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, is our featured keynote speaker. Dr. Singer is a leader in the field of biophotonics, which enables scientists to observe activities within living cells at the molecular level, and in the study of mRNA, a molecule that controls the expression and positioning of proteins within cells.
Researchers from other NIH institutes are welcome to participate in our symposium and collaborate with our UMD colleagues. Please join us to learn about our current UMD graduate students who are performing collaborative research with NIH laboratories. We will also have a series of short talks, a poster session, and extended break time to allow for discussions of possible joint research collaborations. A full symposium schedule will be announced soon.
Our Partnership Integrative Cancer Research Seminar Course
Please register for our Spring 2017 Partnership Seminar, a one-credit graduate course: BIPH708A. The seminars, available to students in the mathematical, computer, and natural sciences and students of engineering, will showcase research collaborations between investigators at NIH and UMD. Seminar participants will review and consider the benefits of these interdisciplinary approaches to cancer research. Featured speakers include NIH investigators, UMD faculty, and students engaged in research in partnership with NIH.
Students who are currently supported by the NCI-UMD Partnership for Integrative Cancer Research are requested to register for the course and give a 30-minute presentation once a year. All other interested students are encouraged to sign up as well. Students attending the seminars for credit are required to provide a one-paragraph write-up on at least two seminars. Prospective students no longer need permission from the Biophysics Coordinator to register for the course.
